Track Wandering Pet Sightings Network
Crowdsourced lost pet spotting that connects worried owners with helpful neighbors in real-time
# Track Wandering Pet Sightings Network ## The Problem When a pet escapes, owners face a frantic race against time with no coordinated system to help. Neighbors frequently spot wandering animals but have no easy way to report sightings—they might post on Facebook hours later, if at all. Meanwhile, desperate owners drive in circles, checking shelters that update slowly, while their pet could be three blocks away being fed by a well-meaning stranger who doesn't know anyone's looking. ## Who Uses It **The Frantic Owner (Maria)**: Her senior beagle slipped out during a delivery. She's posted on Nextdoor, called the shelter, and is now driving around at 11pm refreshing her phone. She needs real-time sighting reports, not day-old Facebook comments. **The Observant Neighbor (James)**: Walking to work, he sees an unfamiliar dog trotting down Oak Street. He'd help if it took 30 seconds, but he's not downloading an app or creating an account. He needs a frictionless "I saw this" form. **The Active Searcher (Community Watch Group)**: Local volunteers who coordinate searches when pets go missing. They need a live map showing sighting clusters so they can direct search efforts intelligently. **The Local Business Owner (Pet Store, Vet Clinic)**: They see lost pet flyers constantly and want to check incoming animals against active alerts. They need a simple lookup: "Is anyone missing a gray tabby?" ## Core Features 1. **Zero-Friction Sighting Report**: A single-page web form (no account required) where anyone can submit: photo (optional but encouraged), location (auto-detected or typed), description (color, size, collar), behavior notes (scared, friendly, injured), and timestamp. Submit in under 60 seconds. 2. **Lost Pet Alert Registration**: Owners create an alert with pet details, photos, last known location, and contact preference (SMS, email). Each alert gets a unique shareable link and a printable QR code flyer that links directly to "I spotted this pet" submission. 3. **Smart Sighting Matching**: When a new sighting comes in, the system compares it against active lost pet alerts within a configurable radius (default 5 miles). Matches trigger instant owner notification with sighting details and map pin. 4. **Live Sighting Map**: A public, real-time map showing recent sightings (last 72 hours) with anonymized location pins. Owners can see movement patterns; searchers can identify hot zones. Pins age from red (fresh) to gray (stale). 5. **Local News Cross-Reference**: Automatically pulls lost pet mentions from local news sources and community boards, creating alerts that sighting reports can match against—even if the owner hasn't registered directly. 6. **Proximity Notification Opt-In**: Neighbors can subscribe to "alert me if a pet goes missing within X blocks" notifications. When a new lost pet alert is created, nearby subscribers get a heads-up to keep eyes open. 7. **Reunion Confirmation & Archive**: When a pet is found, owners mark the alert resolved with an optional reunion story. Resolved cases become anonymized success stories showing "Found after 3 sightings, 2.4 miles from home, 18 hours missing"—building community trust in the system. ## WellSpr.ing Integration Points ### MCP Tools (via POST to `https://wellspr.ing/mcp` using JSON-RPC 2.0) **`get_local_news`**: Core integration. Poll regularly for local news articles mentioning lost pets, missing dogs, escaped cats. Parse results to auto-generate "community-sourced" lost pet alerts that sighting reports can match against. This catches pets reported through traditional channels. ```json { "jsonrpc": "2.0", "method": "get_local_news", "params": {"query": "lost dog OR missing cat OR escaped pet"}, "id": 1 } ``` **`get_businesses`**: Retrieve local pet-related businesses (vet clinics, pet stores, groomers, shelters) to display on the sighting map as "check here" resources. Also useful for suggesting "post a flyer here" locations to owners. **`ask_ody`**: Power a "Help me search" assistant that owners can query: "My dog was last seen at Main and 5th, heading east. Where should I look?" Ody can suggest likely routes, nearby parks, water sources, and businesses that might have seen something. **`search_civic_services`**: Find local animal control contacts, shelter intake processes, and municipal lost-and-found pet resources to display alongside search tools. **`get_city_services`**: Retrieve official city animal services information—shelter hours, stray hold policies, microchip scanning locations. **`reach_number`**: Display real-time engagement metrics showing how many neighbors are actively watching in a given area, building confidence that reports will be seen. ### REST Endpoints **`GET https://wellspr.ing/api/geo/portals?area_code=NNN`**: Use geographic portals to scope searches appropriately and connect adjacent neighborhood networks. If a pet was lost near a boundary, extend alerts to neighboring areas. ### Future Integration Opportunities **Roadmap (not yet live)**: Merchant reward coordination—local businesses could offer "found pet" rewards or discounts for successful reunions through future covenant commerce rails. Note this as a v2 enhancement once payment infrastructure exists. ## Data Model ### `lost_pet_alerts` | Field | Type | Notes | |-------|------|-------| | id | uuid | Primary key | | owner_contact | encrypted string | Phone or email, encrypted at rest | | pet_name | string | "Buddy" | | species | enum | dog, cat, other | | description | text | Size, color, breed, distinguishing marks | | photos | array[url] | Up to 5 images | | last_seen_location | point | Lat/lng of last known position | | last_seen_time | timestamp | When owner last saw pet | | alert_radius_miles | integer | Default 5 | | status | enum | active, resolved, expired | | source | enum | owner_registered, news_parsed, community_reported | | created_at | timestamp | | ### `sightings` | Field | Type | Notes | |-------|------|-------| | id | uuid | Primary key | | location | point | Lat/lng of sighting | | timestamp | timestamp | When spotted (may differ from submission time) | | description | text | What reporter observed | | photo_url | string | Optional image | | behavior_notes | text | Scared, friendly, limping, etc. | | reporter_contact | encrypted string | Optional, for follow-up | | matched_alert_id | uuid | FK to lost_pet_alerts if matched | | created_at | timestamp | | ### `alert_subscriptions` | Field | Type | Notes | |-------|------|-------| | id | uuid | Primary key | | contact | encrypted string | Phone or email | | center_location | point | Subscriber's watch area center | | radius_miles | float | How far to watch | | active | boolean | Can pause notifications | ### `reunions` | Field | Type | Notes | |-------|------|-------| | id | uuid | Primary key | | alert_id | uuid | FK to lost_pet_alerts | | reunion_story | text | Optional happy ending narrative | | total_sightings | integer | How many reports came in | | hours_missing | float | Duration of search | | distance_from_home | float | Where found vs. where lost | ## Vibe
